Sadly to say all things in life must have rules. And not so much as something black and white, for even though people say it is, life never is. Rules help things run smoother and give a simple code of ethics to follow. My rules are my own, and can change as I see fit and as need arises. Role play is supposed to be fun, but then so is swimming, and pool and sports, all of which have rules. If you don't like the ones I have set, I am not to sorry to say, there is the door, please don't let it hit you on the way out. I'm not trying to dim your fun, nor your life style or playing style. That simply is not my intention. However this room was created/reopened so that I had a comfortable place to play as well as my friends. The room though doing well was not meant to make number one on any chart of use. I simply wanted a drama free comfortable place to let creativity out. If you can't understand that, feel free to try many of the other “wonders” pjj has to offer.
1.Have fun. Role playing is for fun. Not to bring added stress to your life. Characters are just that, Characters. Things happen to them that isn't happening to you. If your character dies, or gets fucked over, thats rp life sweety. Be glad its not you. I don't have a character limit so make another one. With this note, please realize that people are here to have fun, escape real life dramas, please don't make it your goal to ruin their fun just cause it brings you joy. And in the end, folks, this is just a game. When it gets to much stress, turn off the computer and step away because then you simply ain't having fun anymore and that looses the point of role play. Bad situations happen in game, other wise it would be some prissy feel good chat and not the world of darkness.
2.With that in mind, that brings me to this one. Do unto others as you want done to yourself. The word is respect people. I am not asking you to love and like everyone. I know that even in the most perfect world that just isn't going to happen. But I can ask that you respect everyone that plays in here, and in return they respect you. This means respect peoples feelings, and choices, such as if they don't' want to play with you, fine deal with it, respect that choice. Also in turn, don't make someone feel like shit for wanting to play, but don't feel forced into role play. Lord knows I don't play with everyone. And also on this note, please respect the room. As you don't go onto someone's property and litter.. please don't throw your “trash” around my room. With respect also comes manners (come on I know you were taught some somewhere). Also with this in mind, the insults do not need to happen in the main channel. That is of course unless it's joking around, and on that note, please make sure the person knows you are teasing if you are. Some people are highly sensitive. I know some have trouble understanding that cause they ain't. But meh, we all have to make compromises.
3.Next item on the agenda. Administrators and Moderators, and then myself: I know you may not like some of us. But........ Tough is all I'm going to say on that one. In the olden days we may not have liked the king or nobles but we still had to follow them. The people I have on staff are people I trust and am comfortable with and will work with me to what I want for the room. I don't get to pick my coworkers at my job, however I can pick the people who help me run my room. What they say pretty much goes. But here is that whole not black and white thing again. I'll get that in a second. Though first I will say this. One of the only ways it get a flat out, straight forward predominant boot to the ass out of VDN is to try to play staff against each other. If one of them says something and you disagree, and take it to another, you will be out. The one accept ion is myself. Which now back to the above statements. Staff also does not have the right to treat you like shit. If you have a problem with a staff member, you take it up with me. Not another staff, but myself personally so I can get to the bottom of the problem. No one staff member has more power then the other.. (well between admins and admins, and mods and mods) with the acception of myself. So taking something to another one of them would be trying to play one against the other which I flat wont tolerate. If you have a problem with myself, you can attempt to take it up with an admin, however, I'll probably just shrug it off. Cause sorry folks it's my room. This is not a democracy. The room is a privilege not a right. So if you don' t like things you can leave but I'm not going to sit and get shit for the way things are because I have the right to make things the way I like in my own room.. That in mind if you have a suggestion (not a bitch fest) that you think would help the room out, feel free to let us know.
4.Last I checked we were all responsible adults. If you aren't, then you are pretending to be, because this isn't a children's themed chat. With that in mind, please act like it. I allow mature themed content and play in here. We should be able to handle it. This is anything from graphic violence, to sexual innuendos, to sexual play it's self. If you think something has gone to far, by all means bring it to my attention. If you don't like that type of play, either violent or other, please just don't participate in it. If you do have problems with such, please go back to mommy's skirts, or you can turn on teletubies.
5.We don't have problems with ooc chit chat in here. In fact one of the great funs I find is the in character ooc banter. It relaxes most, and people enjoy it. Sometimes during important scenes I can see why it might need toned down if it's completely flooding the chat, but very rarely does it actually cause a problem. Especially with the players here. Just be respectful in such things. If ooc truly, and I mean truly is bothering you, take it up with an admin and we'll see if we can't slow it down some. But chats are social events, and that means people will want to chitchat and not just sit idly while waiting for someone to rp with themselves.
6.Now we move more onto the subject of plays rules. God Mod characters are not allowed. There are such characters that are designated as NPC. This stands for Narrator player characters. They are not regular characters. Generally speaking they are made to move stories along, and are made to be tough shit. 9 times out of 10 it will be a staff member playing such a character. The 1 that is not, is a special situation that has been approved by the staff for one reason or another. If one is doing things you have issues with bring it to my attention and I'll either fix the problem or explain why it's allowed.
7.Registration:
a) Please allow a couple of days before hounding staff to reg a character. They have characters they want to play too, and don't want to spend all their time doing staff things. Also some maybe iffy, and need my approval, or some may need more checking into if its a class that they aren't to sure on. My staff is human, they don't know everything about everything after all.
b) I don't count point values when registering. We go by over all value and power level of the character. We also look at the player. Yes, someone could be allowed to play a more powerful character then you. A few reasons on this. One, just like in real life, not all things are created equal. There is always someone who can better you, and usually will be someone lower then you on the food chain. Two, some people can play off a more powerful character. And do so without being a power play situation. I trust my staff to judge on what they think each should play. With that in mind, yes some might approve things others wont. Luck of the draw. As we all are more picky on different things. (again see above not a democracy).
c) All white wolf characters must have white wolf sheets. With that said, also things called “vampires” and things called “werewolves” or any of the true changing breeds such as “bastet” will only be accepted as a white wolf character. If you want to play a shifter, then call it a shifter. But do to the way the hierarchy and stuff work, free form vampires and garou don't mix well with the others.
d) Reg forms must be complete. Either a full white wolf sheet, or the information asked for in the template. This includes info and history. Freeform do to the nature of how things work, usualy tend to need a more detailed history. I know some characters are from other rooms, but I still need them submitted because not all staff plays in all rooms. This in mind we actually need to see sheets, not links. Though the sheets are pretty since well... we have some decent designers in the room. And not trying to be hard on this simply need it available for all staff to see the sheet that was submitted.
e) Post profiles please. Of what was approved. I know some people like to advance characters, but because of power levels and what not, anything added power wise must go through an admin. The one acception is if your character gets changed, or embraced or something like that in the process of play. Anything like that needs to be brought to an admins attention simply so we are aware of it. Things like a vampire embraced needs a new sheet okayed by staff since it is a whole new set of levels.
f) Please pay attention to current character type caps.
8.Now one of the more trickier subject matters. Death of a character. I believe I saw in one chat once upon a time a fairly detailed wording of it. I'll try to take it from memory best I can. Death is allowed in VDN. That said, I also have a few things to add on this. Death happens, things aren't as fun if that thrill and worry isn't there. Real life has death , game play has death too. Now... that in mind.... I will not tolerate some big bad ass running around the room killing things because he/she thinks they are a better player then the other and can do it. It makes people stop playing and they are no longer having fun. On the other end of the spectrum. If your character dies. Think about it... did you walk willingly into a situation that you knew it would or could happen? Did your character bring death upon it's self by being utterly dumb or mouthy? Calling a 9 foot tall werewolf a stupid retarded son-of-a-bitch when all you are is a mortal is rather a dumb thing to do. If you would die then, sorry you deserved it. Death is touchy, some people get to involved in their characters and/or put a lot of work into them. But that doesn't give them a right to be retarded. Basic rule of thumb is, to ask the questions “was there a reason, or what was the reason” if you can't come up with one real legit, other then you hate the other player, or just because you can, probably not the best of things to proceed trying to kill the character. Just keep things in perspective. If there is a question or problem on a death bring it to an admin's attention as soon as possible. Sorry but yes staff can veto a death if it's deemed thats what needs to be done. Also on this note, staff can moderate any fight, whether you request it or not. Certain things will bring about death however, such as having a frequent habit of bailing in the middle of a fight. Or failure to take damage in a fight. Now as far as the actual rules of things. It will take no less then 3 posts to do a kill. That is on top of the role play leading to such a thing. The person must have a chance to defend. So no 3 speed posts, wham your dead. Make sure the person is aware you are attempting to kill them. (and no this doesn't mean you have to talk to them ooc. Most play is obvious thats the intent.) The kill has to be possible, no suddenly growing a bazooka for an arm or something. Or no pulling a two headed ax out of no where. And on a side note, though this isn't exactly a rule. If the player tries hard, and puts forth a good effort in attempting to get away, and is doing good rp to show this. Please try to have a heart and let them go. Now this isn't saying if the puny one is still trying to get up in your face you have to put up with it, because that again goes back to the stupid bit. With death, just use your head people.
9.All bitching aside please have fun. I know this looks like a lot of rules, no not really, I'm just long winded. Have fun. That is the purpose of the chat. This does point back to rule number one, but really thats what we are all here for right? Creativity and fun. So be creative and enjoy yourself. Or attempt.
